History of the Anglesea Fire Brigade
The Anglesea Bush Fire Brigade was first formed around 8 April 1940. Prior to this no organised system existed for fighting of fires.
- Sept 1940 first station erected and purchase of equip.
- 1946 First truck (ex armed forces Inter KS 5200 gall tank)
- 1947 Serious fires in Anglesea area. Siren purchased.
- 1955 First radio equip purchased.
- 1965 New station erected (current site)
- 1970 Urban Fire Brigade formed
- 1983 Ash Wednesday fires.
The brigade is involved in a number of activities within the local community.
Fire and emergency activities include:
- Attending fires
- Attending road accidents & chemical spills
- Conducting fuel reduction burns
- Assisting other agencies at incidents
Some of the non fire fighting activities include:
- Educating the community about fire safety
- Assisting business and house holders prepare emergency evacuation strategies
- Managing community fire risks.
- Maintaining fire equipment
- Supporting the community with Juniors and brigades in schools programs.
The brigade meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 07:30 PM with training every other Tuesday at 07:30 PM ( meet at the Anglesea Fire Station).
Members are also encouraged to attend the brigade to participate in general maintenance and equipment checks.

Lightning strikes cause small fires in Otways

Lightning strikes started a number of small fires yesterday in the Otways, Wednesday 26 January, four of which were located in State forest/ Parks, the rest on private property. Department of Sustainability and Environment District Coordinator Jon Rofe said all fires were less than one hectare, and those that were detected yesterday are now under control. "Water bombing aircraft assisted joint-agency ground crews in getting on top of the fires,' said Mr Rofe. Weekend Fuel Reduction Burns Near Anglesea

Communities in parts of the Otways can expect to see smoke this Sunday, 20 March, as a result of fuel reduction burning near Anglesea. Otways Fire Management Officer, Damian Kerr said forest areas around Anglesea are one of DSE's priority areas and Sunday's burns are designed to protect private properties by reducing forest fuel loads. The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) advises that a fuel reduction burn is planned for Eastern View on the Great Ocean Road west of Anglesea tomorrow (Tuesday 22 March). The 300-hectare burn is designed to protect private property by reducing fuel loads. Smoke will be visible to surrounding residents and people driving along the Great Ocean Road.
