SURF Coast's staff clean-up army was out in
force on Tuesday 1 March to take part in a major rubbish removal
initiative - Business Clean-up Day - at Torquay's Deep Creek
Reserve.
The mayor, Cr Keith Grossman, councillors and CEO, Peter Bollen,
joined the staff in a three-hour mission to rid the reserve
of rubbish.
Some 70 staff members from all sections of the council's indoor and outdoor staff collected an amazing 780 litres of garbage and diverted 300 litres of recyclables from landfill.
Plastics, glass, cigarette butts and paper made up most of the material collected.
Cr Grossman said the Surf Coast Shire had a strong commitment to cleaning up the local environment.
"We thank staff for their involvement in this initiative and hope that it will help to beautify the area and raise community awareness about appropriate waste disposal and recycling," he said.
Cr Grossman said the Shire's commitment to the Business Clean-up Day would continue, with a new site selected each year for clean-up treatment.
