Identify Your Pet For Life With A Microchip
March 10, 2005
Join Colac Otway Shire's Local Laws team and have your pet identified for life with an ISO microchip.
Following the success of last year's event, Council is holding another microchipping and pet registration day on Saturday, April 2 at the Colac Hockey Ground, Hearn Street, Colac from 10am to 1pm.
The microchips will be inserted by a local vet at a cost of $25 per animal, with Council dog and cat registrations also accepted on the day.
Colac Otway Shire Local Laws Coordinator Graeme Murphy said although microchipping is not compulsory it has become a popular method of identifying animals.
"Microchipping is a safe and effective way of permanently identifying your pet," he said.
"The chips are about the size of a grain of rice and cause the animal no discomfort or pain.
"However, we remind owners that their pets are still required to be registered with Council. Registration together with the installation of an approved microchip make the return of lost pets far more likely."
An external tag and a Certificate of Identification will be posted to owners once their pet is microchipped.
Pet owners are reminded that on the day dogs must be on a lead and cats in a cage to ensure their safety.
Members from Colac's Dog Obedience Club will also be attending, providing a sausage sizzle and holding obedience demonstrations.
