Friday 10th, October Inconsistent 2ft+ waves with moderate NW winds ahead of an o'night W/NW change. Saturday 11th, October Strong but somewhat inconsistent SW groundswell providing 4-5ft waves at times. Expect long breaks between sets. Winds likely to be light and variable. Sunday 12th, October Easing SW groundswell with very inconsistent 2-3ft+ waves, slightly smaller into the a'noon. Light N'ly winds freshening during the day and tending NW. Monday 13th, October Inconsistent 2-3ft waves with freshening NW winds. Chance for a gusty W'ly change during the day, and an associated rapid increase in SW swell (more so Tues). Swellnet

GREAT OCEAN RD ROADWORKS

Report as at Friday 18 March 2005 for period 19/3/05 - 25/03/05

Location near Grassy Creek
Work minor drainage repairs
Traffic Conditions traffic will be restricted to one lane at a time during construction. Expect delays of up to five minutes
Timing works are in progress and are expected to be completed by Easter
Location Kennett River to Skenes Creek. (Works may be undertaken at several locations at a time between these two locations).
Work road shoulder sealing and guardrail installation
Traffic Conditions contractors are currently working on the inland side of the road. Traffic will be restricted to one lane at a time during construction. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. There may be loose stone, rough surfaces and speed restrictions in this area.
Timing works are in progress and are expected to be completed by end of May 2005
Location between Grey River and Kennett River
Work guardrail installation
Traffic Conditions traffic will be restricted to one lane at a time during construction. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes

Location from Wild Dog Creek to Marriners Lookout Road (East of Apollo Bay)
Work road reconstruction
Traffic Conditions traffic will be restricted to one lane at a time during works. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. During construction there will be an unsealed surface with loose stones and no linemarking. Speed restrictions are in place 24 hours a day
Timing work has started and is expected to be completed by Easter.
 
Inland routes
Location Beech Forest Road (Turtons Track)
Work road is closed to through traffic between Aire Valley Road and Forest-Apollo Bay Road due to land slips arising from storms.
Traffic Conditions traffic is being detoured around the affected section via Aire Valley Road onto Great Ocean Road (gravel road). Unsuitable for buses, coaches and caravans. Seek alternate route via Lavers Hill.
Timing the road is expected to re-open by early may 2005, weather permitting.

Please note:

Barwon Water is installing pipelines at the eastern end of Apollo Bay township. VicRoads has been advised that this work should not impact on traffic flow. However please be aware that there may occasionally be loose stones, clay or other material on the road surface where trucks are entering and exiting.

Motorists are requested to take notice of roadwork signing and obey all traffic instructions.

Motorists are advised:

  • the Great Ocean Road is not expected to be closed at any time due to these works
  • there are no works planned for the Easter public holidays
  • due to the narrowness of the available roadside, some lane closures will be necessary
  • roadworks may be undertaken at various locations along the road and road users may be delayed more than once during their trip
  • no work is planned on weekends, but roadworks speed limits may apply on weekends as well as week days.
