Over the weekend, Life Saving Victoria held its equivalent of the Brownlow Awards night in which the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club has featured predominantly with a number of awards including :
- Lifesaver of the Year – Andy Doyle (ASLSC Member)
- Beach Lifeguard of the Year – Lachlan Holbery-Morgan (ASLSC Member)
- International Life Saving Certificate of Merit – Mike Martin (ASLSC Member & President LSV)
- Patrol Efficiency Club of the Year – Anglesea SLSC
These awards demonstrate the highest levels of skills and proficiency that Anglesea puts into practice on the beach patrols that they undertake and also for the skills and proficiency of its members around our core responsibility in patrolling and rescue services which combined with our recent successes with our IRB team, Anglesea beachgoers can rest assured that they have the very best looking after them at the Anglesea beaches patrolled by our members.
Andy Doyle received his Wishart medal an award that was announced earlier in the year as best volunteer lifesaver with Andy being the second Anglesea SLSC member in a row to win this coveted award (Scott Yeomans 2006/07). To cap off the night, Lachie Holbery-Morgan was announced as Best Beach Lifeguard for the year 2007/08, an award for the best professional lifesaver which is voted on by a panel from LSV. Lisa Williams also from the ASLSC was also nominated for this award.
In addition to the above awards, Mike Martin, Anglesea member and LSV President, also received an International Life Saving Certificate of Merit which is testament to his leadership and dedication to the life saving movement.
Club President, Warren Clarke said that this is the second year in row Anglesea SLSC has won the patrol efficiency award which demonstrates the consistency in our performance and combined with the individual awards to Andy and Lachie shows how serious we are in being the best in what we do, not just in competition but our core responsibility in patrol and life saving services. Our members provide a high quality training and development program whether it is through bronze camps or ongoing training and it is also testament to the depth we have in the club.
