Bells remains in dry doc
Wednesday 23 March 2005
CONTINUING strong onshore winds and virtually no swell have led to the Rip Curl Pro and SPC Fruit Pro being postponed for the second day of the event waiting period. Similar conditions are expected early tomorrow, though a bump in the swell together with winds swinging into a more favourable NW direction, are forecast for later in the day.

CFA Open Day
With fine weather and a lot of cars passing on the Great Ocean Road, the Anglesea CFA opened its doors with a sizzle to mark the beginning of fire season. Visitors were encouraged to share a sausage with members of the crew, buy a raffle ticket and take a closer look at the equipment used.
A bad fire season is being predicted by many of the experts. Low rainfall, high temperatures and high levels of bush fuel make a combustible mix. The Anglesea CFA has already attended 3 grass and bush fires this season, in and around Anglesea.
Celebrating Surf Coast Volunteers
Saturday 2nd November, 2002
The Many Hands art project, which celebrates and acknowledges the work of volunteers, came to an end on Saturday with a sausage sizzle and the launching of a book celebrating the event. 2001 was the International Year of the Volunteer.
All round the world, countries and governments acknowledged the work done by Volunteers within their communities in many different ways. The Federal and State Governments responded by allocating funds last year to be used on arts projects celebrating the work of volunteers.
The River Market season begins
3rd November 2002
The first of this Summer's River Side Markets was held this Sunday. It was a classic '3 seasons in one day' sort of day. Store holders and caterers alike held their breath as threatening weather loomed overhead.
Store holders struggled against blustery conditions to set up their displays. In fact a few decided not to stay fearing the worst. After a few drops of rain, the weather moderated and it turned out to be a very lovely afternoon.

RipCurl Pro "Wildcard" Winners
15 April 2003
It seems as though local knowledge and raw talent won the day when Adam Robinson and Nic Muscroft won first and second place respectively in the Surf Dive'n'Ski Trials competition held yesterday at Winkipop, adjacent to Bells Beach.
This is no small win for these two local surfers, for it secures for each of them a "wildcard" place in the 2003 Rip Curl Pro World Championship Tournament (WCT), beginning today at Bells Beach.

21 April 2003

Blessed with a perfect Autumn day, 72 participants from near and far began the event at 12.30pm. The 12 mixed teams were made up of three randomly selected players, either male or female, with the main focus of keeping the teams as even as possible.
ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Torquay
25 April 2003
Leaving Geelong in the dark on Friday morning, I was surprised to see an unbroken string of red tail lights heading for Torquay. It then dawned on me that I was just one of the many thousands of people who were heading to Point Danger to remember all those who have served in defence of our nation in time of war.
I parked the car and joined the quiet procession of people emerging from the dark on its way to Torquay's Point Danger war memorial. The first ANZAC Day Dawn Service took place here at 6.30am on Sunday, 24 April 1949. Two years later the current war memorial was built and dedicated to the fallen.
Fire used to save the New Holland Mouse
29 April 2003
The New Holland Mouse is very small, quite cute and very vunerable. In fact, it is four steps away from extinction. To prevent this from happening, fire is now being used to ensure their survival.
Anglesea is one of only four locations in Victoria were the rare little marsupial is found. The other locations are Wilson Promontory, Loch Sport and Providence Ponds. It is also found in Tasmania.
Senior Citizens Celebrate 35th Birthday
7th May 2003
The Anglesea & Aireys Inlet Senior Citizens Club celebrated its 35th birthday this Wednesday with a little help from some friends. The Portarlington Entertainers traveled down and put on a wonderful cabaret performance for the 87 members and guests present.
The occasion was opened by the Senior Citizen's President Arthur Bubb, who welcomed everybody, made apologies for those not in attendance and introduced the Entertainers. After the National Anthem was sung the show got underway. And what a show. The costumes, the singing and choreography were performed with great enthusiasm and professionalism. A big thank you to all those involved.

Samuel Johnson rides through Anglesea
23 November 2003
When Samuel Johnson was 11 years old his sister was diagnosed with cancer. The impact it had on him and his family was profound. It is this experience that lead the Australian film star to become involved with Canteen, an Australian Charity that supports, develops and empowers young people living with cancer.
"I'm not going to bust my balls on any dodgy charity", explained Samuel to the crowd that came out to greet him as he rode into Anglesea. "All money raised by my ride goes to Canteen because of the support of Seek. They have paid for the support team and everything it has cost to organise the event".

While the date for the final submissions to the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) has passed, the aim of the protest was to send a message to Premier Bracks that many in the community oppose the expansion of the Otway National Park and have no confidence in the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC).
