About Melaleuca Galleries

Melaleuca Gallery has been a fine art venue for over 20 years. It is located at 121 Great Ocean Road, Anglesea, opposite the river, protected by the ancient Melaleuca trees, after which the gallery has been named.

The gallery building was constructed after the First World War as a beach house, to a simple design that makes it ideal for displaying art. The building is in original condition with its character intact. The only alterations have been doorways to connect the main rooms.

The gallery was established by Sadrene Smith who saw the need for a Fine Art Gallery on the West Coast. The gallery offers a venue for artists from Victoria and interstate the opportunity to exhibit out of the metropolitan area.

The gallery holds a regular exhibition program over the summer months. A core group of artists have been exhibiting with the gallery for 15 to 20 years. Several have been successfully living and working overseas in more recent times.

Over two decades the works exhibited have changed from traditional realistic paintings to contemporary works which include canvases in oil and acrylic, works on paper in all medium and sculpture.

Robert Ingpen, one of Australia's best known book illustrators, who now resides on the West Coast, is represented by the gallery and has had many successful exhibitions of original illustrations from various books.

The gallery offers consultation and private viewings by appointment, in and around Melbourne and the West Coast, plus packaging and shipping of artworks both interstate and overseas.
