Alcoa Anglesea Power Station Outage
April 2005

Since 1969, Alcoa has operated an open-cut brown coal mine and a power station in Anglesea that provides 41% of the electricity required to operate our Point Henry smelter in Geelong.

For several weeks now, the Alcoa Anglesea Power Station has been preparing for major maintenance and cleaning works that are occurring on site throughout April. The power station will come off line on 1 April.Known as “the outage”, these works are part of our standard operations and are scheduled to occur every four years.

During this time we employ over 300 additional contractors to join our 110 permanent employees on site. Work will occur on site in shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

With works occurring 24 hours a day, there will be additional noise coming from our site, however, we have tried to minimise loud work occurring after hours. You may also notice additional traffic on the roads to and from our site, particularly on the Great Ocean Road and Coalmine Road near the Tip site.

Similarly, approximately 100 contract staff will live in Anglesea for the duration of the work and will use the town’s restaurants and facilities.

If you would like to talk to a staff member about our outage, please contact:

or our
