Remembering the Ash Wednesday Bushfire 1983

Wednesday, 16th February 1983

25 years ago today, in 1983, much of the Surf Coast Shire's coastline and hinterland was burnt by a massive bushfire. Ten years later, a small group of creative and dedicated Anglesea residents began to write a book about the disaster. This book is now presented online.

Mission Statement

At Anglesea we are dedicated to helping you achieve your own personal goals. Our classes are designed to "ease" you into Karate training. We aim to create an environment where you will feel comfortable with what you are doing, and where you can learn and train at your own pace.

Your training will begin

in the general class where you train at your own pace BUT you will also receive personal instruction from the instructor and other senior grades in the class. In this way you will get a good physical workout whilst you are learning AND you are always trained within your limitations. Eventually your limitations will expand or disappear. If you have any questions please ask the instructor.

What to wear

Any loose comfortable clothing. You do not need a karate uniform for the first few months. You can buy one from us when you want. They cost around $95.

When are the classes?

Monday nights 6pm-7pm
You also have FREE access to classes at our 9 other dojo in the Geelong area. Please ask the instructor for details. In this way you have access to classes 6 times per week and the more classes you attend the quicker you will learn.

Do you need to be fit?

Karate is NOT the sole domain of the young, strong and fit male. Our classes are full of people just like YOU. The only thing you need is the desire to learn, everything else will happen for you as you train. You don't need to be fit to start, that will come as you progress, it is a result of your training and NOT a prerequisite to be able to train.

Who are the instructors

The Chief Instructor is Sempai Scott Conolan. He is also a Police Officer and is extremely competent in the self defense area. He will ensure that you receive the best instruction possible.

Our group

We have sister clubs in various locations throughout Geelong and you are welcome to train at any other club at any time, for free. You will also be invited to attend joint training and other functions.

Our classes cater for the fit and the not so fit; the young and the not so young; and females as well as males. Age is no barrier and we will help you achieve a new level of fitness.

What does it cost?

There is an annual membership of $40 that is payable upon joining and covers you for 12 months from the date you join (you will be billed separately for this) PLUS there are training fees that are payable in advance.

1 month = $20 per person
3 months = $50 per person
Family discount is available

Free lessons

We are more than happy to give you 2 FREE lessons so that you can decide if you want to join. Once you become a member at the Anglesea dojo you are also to train for FREE at many of the other dojo in the Geelong area.

The benefits you can have
