Still Life in Landscape

Geelong artist Meg Anderson's latest series of evocative paintings, “Still Life in Landscape", is on show at Little Malop Gallery from 6 October. Meg has set herself the task of painting images that are believable but unfamiliar. The objects are set in a suggested landscape or a composition borrowed from a familiar painting. Classical perspective is honoured, but scale is ambiguous and the sense of gravity is inconsistent...story>>

Stone Upon Stone Exhibition

A series of visual and narrative panels capturing the mood and character of dry stone walls will be on exhibit at Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre from September 25 to October 21. A Stone Upon Stone depicts the multicultural craft of dry stone walling in the making of the Australian landscape. Dry stone walling is a unique and universally recognised craft. It emerged in the mid 1800s in areas where an excess of stone required a clearing or reshaping of the land for agricultural, mining or land retaining purposes. Constructed by the early immigrants, the dry stone walls are testimony to a time when artisan skills portrayed the patterns of early settlement and influenced the shaping of the pastoral landscape...

Colac Otway Shire is supporting an Ambulance Victoria program seeking to significantly increase the number of people able and prepared to provide resuscitation (CPR) in a life threatening emergency. Through an innovative free program called the 4 Steps for Life, Ambulance Victoria aims to build awareness and confidence to perform CPR through fun group learning at local clubs and community houses. The Shire will host the launch of the initiative at Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre at 10.30 on Wednesday, December 1 in an effort to encourage community groups and clubs to take up the free program...story>>

The Draft Community Access and Inclusion Plan (2004-07) is now available for public comment following endorsement by Council at the September Council Meeting. The plan focuses on developing inclusive and accessible practices for all members of the community by working in partnership with key stakeholders. The 2004-2007 draft is the culmination of an extensive consultation process with community members, including people with disabilities, service providers, community organisations and government departments. Meetings were also held with specific interest groups and individuals who had identified interests in community access and inclusion issues...story>>

Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) annual Community Facilities Funding Program is currently calling for applications. The Minor Facilities Category is for projects with total costs up to $150,000 GST exclusive. Your Council must apply to SRV for funding, so interested organisations are required to submit applications directly to your Shire's Recreation units: Colac Otway Shire: Marg Scanlon on 5232 9476, Surf Coast Shire: 5261 4527. Applications must be submitted by November 5, 2004.

Tourists Targeted in Bushfire Awareness Campaign

Surf Coast Shire is partnering a plan to better manage increasing tourist numbers in a bushfire, or other emergency. Research into the plan was agreed at a recent meeting with emergency service agencies, Geelong Otway Tourism and the Victorian Government's Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner.
